St. Alban the Martyr

Sunday 21st November
Christ the Universal King
  Sunday next before Advent

Let us pray...

For the Church, that we may offer ourselves with Jesus our King as an acceptable sacrifice.

For Justin, Archbishop of Canterbury; Pope Francis; Bartholomew, the Ecumenical Patriarch; and the leaders of all Christian churches.

With the Diocese of Birmingham, for the congregation of Christ the King, Shirley, meeting once a month for worship including this morning when they are celebrating their Patronal Festival with a Eucharist in a local school; may they continue to stand firm together in their faith, always proclaiming the Good News of God's Son.

In our Deanery, for the parish of St James, Handsworth.

For Fr. Gerry and his family, our parish and congregation.

For the staff, students and governors at St Alban’s Academy and for Stanhope Wellbeing Hub.

For Highgate Baptist Church, St Anne's Roman Catholic Church, the Shia Mosque in Clifton Road, Birmingham Central Mosque, the Bahu Trust and Birmingham Central Synagogue.

For those nations which are experiencing war, terrorism and violence; may they be delivered from such evil and together find the path to peace with justice. Let us pray especially at this time for the people of Afghanistan.

For homes and communities where there is unhappiness and exploitation, that their members may work for reconciliation through peaceful words rather than violence and anger

For a blessing on our communities, that our neighbourhoods may be places of trust and friendship, where all are known and cared for, especially during the continuing pandemic.

For all who labour under a burden of suffering or grief, the imprisoned and all who need God's healing touch in their lives; may they have the grace to carry their cross bravely in the footsteps of the King of Kings.

For those for whom our prayers have been asked.

(Members of our congregation who are visiting this page because they cannot attend the church due to Covid-19, please note that we never publish the names of the vulnerable individuals for whom we pray on the website. You may receive a full copy of the intercessions including  these names by e-mail.)

That Jesus may bring all whom He has called through the gates of death into the heavenly glory where He is truly King forever.

For all who have died recently, especially those who have died as a result of COVID-19 and those who have died suddenly, unprepared or alone.

By name amongst those whose years' mind occur at this time for: George Price, Paul Fenton, Nancie Owen, Lena Evans, Eric Aspinall, George Holt, Joyce Hogetts and Corinne Bennett. Rest eternal grant unto them, O Lord, and let light perpetual shine upon them.

Let us offer these prayers with those of all the saints and with Mary, mother of Our Lord and Queen of Heaven. Hail, Mary, full of grace …

Let us bring to mind our own needs and intentions in a time of silence.
