St. Alban's Restoration Campaign

The effects of time and pollution have taken such a heavy toll on the the church that future insurance and safety of the fabric and structure are now in question. After more than a century the building itself now needs investment on its fabric if priests and people are to continue their commitment to those living in the community of Highgate.

The principal areas of work:

The main and side aisles are in need of repair and restoration.
The time has come when major works are required, open joints on the ridge tiles need re-pointing, many missing and broken tiles need to be replaced. The complete re-tiling of the nave and chancel are a priority to avoid storm damage due to the currently weak tile fixings .

Brick and stone works need renewing outside and inside
There is considerable sulphate attack in the stonework to the south porch, and at various other places, caused by atmospheric pollution re-acting with the limestone.
