Temporary Roof Repairs

22 Jun 2016 • General news

On Wednesday 22nd June a giant cherrypicker with a 70m reach parked on Conybere Street was used to effect temporary repairs to the high-level and aisle roofs on the South side of St Alban's Church.

This model of cherrypicker is too heavy to park on Stanhope Street, where the flagged pavement is not strong enough to support its weight. We hope to use a slightly smaller cherrypicker there to make similar repairs to the high-level and aisle roofs on the North side of the church.

This work is necessary to make the roof water-tight while funding is sought to enable full replacement of the high-level and aisle roofs within the next two years to complete the replacement of the life-expired Victorian tiles that is starting with the renewal of the St Patrick's Chapel, Organ Loft, Ambulatory and South Transept roofs in early July with the aid of a grant from the Listed Places of Worship: Roof Repair Fund.
