Phase II Roof Renewal — August 2020

By the 5th of August the new battens were in place on the west side of the North Transept roof and the south side of the Nave roof.

The battens were nearly complete on the north side of the Nave roof.

And the first 9,000 new brown brindle Deadnought tiles were delivered, together with 250 shorter eaves tiles and 250 wider tiles to provide the offset between rows.

During the next week the contractors began installing the new tiles.

Meanwhile the scaffolding around the apse at the east end of the church had reached full height.

And the north side of the chancel had been stripped of old tiles and battens and sheeted.

On the 21st of August the new tiles on the south side of the nave were approaching the junction with the south transept.

And tiling the north side was undeway, allowing the first of the old ridge tiles to be refitted.

While the scaffolding is in place we are also carrying out some repairs and maintenance to the high-level widnows:

By the 26th of August the new tiles on the south side of the nave roof had reached the south transept and were nearing the old tiles still on the chancel roof.

While on the north side of the nave roof more of the reused ridge tiles had been replaced, after drilling to allow more secure fixing.
