Founding St Alban’s Church: The Mission of the Pollock Brothers
An illustrated talk by Churchwarden Chris Smith about the struggles of two priests and their supporters from the foundation of a mission in 1865 to the opening of St Alban the Martyr in 1881 and the former St Patrick’s Frank Street in 1896. Topics include the Development of Highgate; the Origin of St Alban’s Mission; the Pollocks; the First Mission Church; Opposition to the Mission; the First ‘Permanent’ Church; St Patrick’s School & Chapel; Building the Present Church of St Alban; Iron Chapels and St Patrick’s Frank Street.
Toilets are available (including a wheelchair-friendly one).
Entrance for this event is through the step-free cloister entrance via a path beside the church from a gate on Stanhope Street; door open from 5:00 p.m.
There is no admission charge, but donations for church restoration and our organ fund are welcomed.
