1875 Bechstein Grand Piano
We have a recently restored nineteenth century Bechstein grand piano, currently kept in the north transept from where it can easily be moved to the front of the nave for use in concerts.
For many years this instrument was kept in the choir vestry as a rehersal instrument and was in poor condition. The need to move it for building work to restore the floor of the vestry prompted investigation of its condition and led to its sponsored restoration.
The serial number of the frame is 8733, which dates it to 1875 - before the opening of the present church in 1881.
We do not know if it was given or acquired in 1881 or at some later date, although we hope to discover this in due course.
