St. Alban the Martyr

Concerts and Recitals
at St Alban the Martyr

There are normally a number of concerts and recitals at St Alban the Martyr throughout the year.

Our programme is gradually resetablishing after the disruption caused by Covid-19.

Forthcoming Concerts:

4:00 p.m. 14th February 2026

Still Life: Early Baroque Fantasy

A concert of early-seventeenth-century music performed on period instruments by Música d’Outrora, featuring music from their acclaimed debut album Still Life, recorded last year here in the wonderful acoustic of our church.

You can view a video about the making of the album in our church here: https://youtu.be/76fMzyI52ds?list=RD76fMzyI52ds (after a couple of adverts).

The programme traces the fantastic style ( stylus phantasticus) across its main centres – from the brilliance of Venice (Castello, Strozzi) and Naples (Kapsberger) to the expressive depth of Vienna (Schmelzer) and Lübeck (Buxtehude).

Música d’Outrora is an early music ensemble founded in 2022 by Galician conductor and harpsichordist Pablo Devigo. Based internationally, the group specializes in 17th-century Italian repertoire, with particular focus on the stylus phantasticus, a compositional style that privileged freedom, fantasy, and dramatic contrasts.

Performers:Asako Ueda – violin & theorbo
Timothy Lin – viola da gamba & cello
Pablo Devigo
– harpsichord, chamber organ & artistic direction
Louis Moisan – baroque guitar & theorbo
Chun-Yuan – lirone / violone

Duration approximately 90 minutes (including a 20-minute interval)

This event is in aid of our church Organ Fund.

Regular tickets cost £20 with some free tickets available for students valid with student identification shown at the door.
