St. Alban the Martyr

St Patrick Preaching to the Irish

This page is part of our project "Revealing St Alban's Hidden Heritage" supported by a grant from The National Lottery Heritage Fund, thanks to players of The National Lottery.

The bottom panel of the central light shows Patrick, now a missionary bishop, preaching to the people of Ireland, among whom are a warrior with spear, mail tunic and helmet and a bard or druid, crowned with leaves and holding a small clarsach harp.

The quotation is from Psalm thirty-five: “I will praise Thee among much people”.
